Uruguay Aktuell

Don't let the apparent low-tech nature of this site fool you. Gathered by a group of expatriates, the information here is top notch. Some of the references target relocators, but all of it is interesting to the visitor as well. Society, tourism, economy, and culture headings in the left frame lead to relevant details and connect to valuable sites. Tremendous list of resources shows the quality of the content. Lots of photographs.

Virtual Museum of Arts El Pais (MUVA)

This site gives you unique access to the world of contemporary art in Uruguay. Well designed interfaces let you tour the "collection" and "special exhibits" as if you were in an actual museum. Unlike other sites that replicate existing places, the purely virtual museum has no restrictions to its offerings. Navigate through the museums rooms, turn to see spatial pieces from different angles, zoom in or back away from pictures, and enjoy this innovative approach to contemporary Uruguayan culture. Biographies of contributors and details about the works are readily available. Informative and great fun.

Visit Uruguay

Ostensibly just a hotel site, "Visit Uruguay" presents good general information about the country and links you to major visitor and information sites for Uruguay and South America. Commentary and hard-tp-find local links accompany hotel information about various cities on the coast. The site includes Montevideo and major coastal destinations. Considerable detail on transportation - ferryboats, vehicle rental, bus lines, and airlines. Particularly good if you're coming from Argentina. Nice photo gallery. Great, easy to use starting place.
